Tough Loss for the Men in Glasgow

Following a victorious home game against the University of Edinburgh II team, the men’s team voyaged to Glasgow on Sunday, November 2, to play Glasgow University. Unexpected conditions met us on the court in Glasgow: the gym was freezing cold, and there was loud music playing in the adjacent court where young children were spending an afternoon rollerblading. Despite requests for the music to be silenced, it continued to play during the entire duration of the match. Despite the music, we began the match with the starting six. In the first set, Saints got off to a rocky start, where our lack of communication cost us early on in the set. We fought back hard in the middle of the first set, but our slip in the beginning was too much to overcome. Finding our form after the first set, we took the second set to equalize the score after 2 sets. However, Glasgow crushed us in the 3rd set with the score of 12-25. This was due to a poor start, as well as just general poor play, especially with the lack of acceptable first passes which were unable to be converted to opportunities for attack. Errors from our team persisted, and we lost the game with score 2-3 after bringing it to the 5th set. Things to work on for next game would include passing, serving, positioning, and gameplay situations. Unpleasant distracting conditions, combined with our poor performance, led to our defeat. In terms of skill, we are on par with or ever better than the Glasgow University Team. May we bring our a-game next week against Aberdeen, and crush Glasgow the next time we play them.
